Aurora PhotoCenter is an Indianapolis-based nonprofit that supports visual artists working in photography through a full program of exhibitions, residencies, workshops, artist talks, and access to creative tools.

We seek an intern to work with Founding Director Mary Goodwin in the gallery + workspace environment. For the Summer internship, from May 5-August 22, 2025, priority consideration will be given to applicants currently enrolled in coursework in the fine arts or arts administration at an accredited college or university; recent graduates and those with applicable experience should also apply. There is no fee to apply.

Strong interest in and knowledge of analog and digital photography, exhibitions, workshops, and events a plus.

The intern must be reliable, good with time management, and capable of working independently. The intern will be required to dedicate approximately 10 hours per week for the duration of the internship and will be responsible for tracking their activities and hours. Generally, the intern selects a day of the week when he or she works on projects in-person at Aurora from 11am-5pm. For the duration of the internship, unless previously arranged, the intern will attend and assist at all applicable Aurora events.

The intern receives a stipend of $2,000, with $1,000 due after the first half of the internship and the second half of the stipend upon the internship’s completion.

We can tailor the internship to the intern’s interest and needs. Some core projects for Aurora’s Summer intern could include:

2024 Spring Intern Alexander Toms assisting an Aurora member with developing film.

* Installation and deinstallation of Aurora’s Summer and Fall exhibitions
* Plan and staff openings and events, including First Fridays
* Documentation of exhibitions, openings, workshops, artist visits, and special events

* Gallery/workspace sitting and attending
* General cleaning (once per month and as needed)
* Darkroom chemistry and equipment maintenance
* Assist instructor and provide general support for workshops
* Assist visiting artists and residents
* Catalog donations

Because the Summer internship falls during the 2025 Aurora + Herron Residency, the intern may have the opportunity to work with the resident if it is a good fit for the resident’s needs.

Depending on skills, the Intern may assist with digital printing services and helping members in the darkroom and digital lab.

To apply, by April 25, please send a current resume and a statement of goals/plans for the internship to
