Seeking Part-time lab manager

Aurora PhotoCenter, an Indianapolis nonprofit, supports visual artists working in photography through exhibitions, residencies, workshops, artist talks, and access to creative tools.

Aurora has the only rentable analog darkroom and digital imaging lab in Indianapolis. Originally envisioned as single-user, DIY resources, Aurora is currently planning a renovation of both the darkroom and digital areas to transform them to multi-user teaching spaces with an expanded range of imaging tools, services, and workshops. This renovation will be completed by early 2025.

We seek a Part-Time Lab Manager to manage every aspect of maintenance and usage of our renovated darkroom and digital lab, maximizing the workspaces as an essential resource for the artists we serve and as a financial engine for our organization.

The Part-Time Lab Manger will report directly to Founding Director Mary Goodwin. The projected start date for this one-year contract is January 2025. The pay range is $15,000-$20,000.

Required duties include:

* Maintain inventory of supplies, including darkroom chemistry and stock inkjet inks and papers
* Maintain, calibrate, and clean all labs and equipment, including darkroom enlargers, Canon inkjet printers, Epson scanners, and Apple studio monitors
* Assist members and artists-in-residence during scheduled and open sessions
* Plan, schedule, and produce a year-long program of interesting and innovative workshops
* Print selected exhibitions, Aurora’s fine print program, and jobs for clients

The ideal candidate:

* Has a BFA or equivalent experience with expert knowledge of analog and digital imaging techniques
* Knowledge and experience with alternative processes a plus
* Works well with others and independently
* Enjoys working with a diversity of makers and types of photography
* Has reliable transportation

This position will remain open until filled, but priority will be given to applicants who email a cover letter and resume by October 15, 2024, for consideration. Candidates will be contacted for an in-person interview at Aurora PhotoCenter in the case of interest.
