Seeking Paid Intern

Internship Stipend: $2,000

Aurora PhotoCenter is an Indianapolis-based nonprofit that supports visual artists working in photography through a full program of exhibitions, residencies, workshops, artist talks, and access to creative tools.

We seek an intern to work with Director Mary Goodwin in the gallery/workspace environment to supplement coursework in the fine arts or arts administration at an accredited college or university. Intern must be reliable and capable of working independently.

The intern will be required to dedicate approximately 10 hours per week for the duration of the internship, with at least one workday a week at the Aurora gallery + workspace. In January 2025, Aurora will complete a renovation of the darkroom and digital lab to transform them from single-user to multi-user teaching spaces. Strong interest in digital printing, scanning, black-and-white film development and printing, color film development, exhibitions, workshops, and events a plus.

A stipend total of $2,000 will be paid to the intern, $1,000 due after the first half of the internship and the second half of the stipend upon the internship’s completion.

We can tailor the internship to the intern’s interest and needs. Some core duties at Aurora could include:

* Assist with installation/deinstallation of exhibitions
* Assist with planning and manning First Friday events at the gallery
* Documentation of exhibitions, First Fridays, workshops, artist visits, and special events
* Production of marketing and promotional interviews and other videos
* Assist with fulfilling Fine Print Program orders
* Assist with weekly social media planning and posting
* Gallery/workspace sitting and attending
* General cleaning (once per month and as needed)
* Darkroom chemistry maintenance (weekly)
* Assist instructor and provide general support for workshops
* Assist visiting artists and residents
* Catalog donations
