The Aurora + Herron Residency, a collaboration between Aurora PhotoCenter and Herron School of Art + Design/IU Indianapolis, offers a two-week intensive work period in the Herron darkroom facility and studios. Herron supplies darkroom access, basic chemistry, and onsite support during the residency.

Herron Darkroom Facilities

Analog Production:
Two analog darkrooms with an assortment of over 20 individual enlargers including Zone VI, Saunders, Omega, and Bessler
Chromogenic or black & white printing in film formats up to 4 x 5
Alternative process lab and UV exposure unit
Wet lab for processing roll film, sheet film, and wet plates
Jobo processor for 35mm, medium- and large-format film development
Archival washroom for black & white prints and alternative process work
Digital Production:
Film scanning lab with a Hasselblad X1 Flextight that accommodates film formats up to 4 x 5, as well as an Epson V800 and V700
44" inkjet roll printing on a Canon Pro-4100 and Canon iPF 8400
Photo Finishing & Presentation:
Two print viewing rooms, with tack-able walls and 50K lighting
Large photo finishing area with a wall-mounted cutter for sheet goods, bevel matt cutters, dry mount presses, and a 52" Coda Cold Press Mounting Machine
Photographic Lighting Studio:
Lighting Studio with 20' cyclorama wall and 15' ceilings
Stocked with an assortment of 9' and 5' seamless backdrop papers
Three monolights that fire up to 1000 watts per second, and a wide range of diffusers, grips, gels, snoots, flags, and other lighting essentials
